A stunning trip to Istanbul

At Brighter we’re fortunate to be invited to so many different industry events whether they’re in the UK or abroad. These events – whatever they may be – are a great way to network as well as inspire and fire our imaginations when organising our own events.

Roberta Parr, our National Operations Manager for Events, has just returned from a fam trip to Turkey which was organised by our friends at Mundus Representation.

The group was split between London and Manchester departures, with Roberta flying out from Manchester courtesy of Turkish Airlines. The airline’s hospitality was exceptional throughout the journey, offering wide, comfortable seats, generous legroom, and delicious in-flight meals.

Upon arrival at Istanbul Airport, the group was warmly welcomed by the team from MEP DMC and transferred by coach to Tarabya. There, they boarded a yacht for a leisurely cruise along the Bosphorus - a stunning experience, especially in the summer heat. After docking at the luxurious Shangri-La, they checked into elegant rooms overlooking the Bosphorus and reunited with the rest of the group. A full hotel show-round followed, showcasing highlights such as a self-contained meeting space for up to 1,000 delegates and 186 beautifully appointed rooms and suites. The evening concluded with a welcome dinner at IST TOO, featuring a mouthwatering array of Turkish dishes.

The next day was dedicated to exploring Istanbul, from the ancient Roman Hippodrome and Basilica Cistern to the chic, contemporary Istanbul Modern Museum. The group also visited the lesser-known but atmospheric 1001 Cistern, a unique venue ideal for private dining or events. A standout moment was a laughter-filled team-building session learning Ottoman water marbling - a creative and engaging activity enjoyed by all.

The journey continued to Cappadocia, with Turkish Airlines’ Business Class providing a stylish and comfortable travel experience. Upon arrival, the group checked into the Avantgarde Refined Hotel, a captivating property carved into the rocks and featuring 46 cave rooms and suites. Dinner at the hotel’s Ace Restaurant, nestled within the caves, was another culinary highlight, with excellent pescatarian options.

The following morning included visits to the Goreme Open Air Museum and the Dark Church, followed by a hands-on red clay pottery-making session. That evening, dinner was hosted at the exceptional Argos in Cappadocia Hotel, a collection of renovated properties transformed into 71 bespoke rooms and suites. The meal was divine, and the night ended with a mesmerising performance by whirling dervishes.

The trip concluded with a sunrise hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia. Floating through the skies at 4am was both serene and exhilarating, a true bucket list moment and the perfect finale to an unforgettable Turkish adventure.

Roberta commented on the trip:

I can’t recommend Istanbul and Cappadocia highly enough as destinations for memorable events and incentive travel. The people were wonderfully welcoming, the venues exceptional, and the range of experiences on offer - from cultural immersion and unique dining options to team-building activities and stunning scenery - was simply superb.
