What's the future for large scale events?

At Brighter, we know how important major events are to the energy, visibility and economic strength of the UK’s events landscape.
That’s why the ongoing Culture, Media and Sport (CMS) Select Committee’s major events inquiry matters.
It’s taking a deep dive into the future of large‑scale events - those attracting more than 10,000 attendees a day - and how the industry can continue to deliver unforgettable experiences with long‑term impact.
A core part of the inquiry is understanding the pressures and complexities we organisers now face, from navigating rising costs to adjusting to new legislation such as the Employment Rights Bill, the Crime and Policing Bill, and the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025.
These policies could shape everything from staffing models to operational planning and compliance expectations.
The committee is also reviewing how supportive (or restrictive) the current regulatory environment is and what changes would genuinely help the sector thrive.
The inquiry is also exploring where stronger collaboration could unlock better outcomes.
Major events can span regions and nations, making partnership essential, so the committee is seeking fresh thinking on how the UK can coordinate more effectively.
Alongside this, it’s looking outward, reviewing international best practice to understand how other markets fund, support and innovate within their major events sectors.
This includes examining untapped opportunities for growth, from technology and sustainability to new audience engagement models.
At Brighter, we see this as a powerful opportunity - a moment for the industry to collectively influence the policies, priorities and partnerships that will define the next chapter of UK events.
Industry leaders have been contributing evidence since late last year 2025 to help shape a clearer picture of where the sector stands today and where it needs support tomorrow.
We’re looking forward to reading the initial report which is expected in the spring.
