Working with The Metropolitan Police on Operation London Bridge

Arguably the most high-profile event we have ever been involved in. Having won the contract in December 2021, what followed was an intricate and detailed activation plan for the event of Her Majesty’s death.

The Challenge

This momentous occasion involved sourcing and negotiating with key hotels in and around the key areas of police deployment, site visits with the client to ascertain the best briefing space to use for officers for the length of the operation, and agreed rates and cancellation policies with dedicated key contacts within the hotels.

The Result

We had an activation team in place which consisted of 24/7 on call support, ready for when the operation was activated. On 8th September 2022, we received the call at 5.30pm to advise Project MOTUS was to be activated, which then initiated two and a half weeks of putting all our planning into place.

Having completed all pre-negotiations with all key hotels and contacts, it meant that we were able to secure all the bedrooms required for the project at a drop of a hat, with all agreed rates honoured. This was no easy task as we were competing against not just other government departments, but different event agencies, different newspaper divisions, and also the general public who were coming to London to pay their respects to Her Majesty.

A member of the Brighter Events team travelled to London on 11th September and didn’t return until 23rd September, to be on hand to support directly from Met Police HQ in Lambeth. Being based directly within HQ was instrumental to react and action all the short lead amendments, additions and updates to the project in real time, being the lead between all the different venues booked on behalf of the operation for both MO6 and RasP divisions.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all your support over the last 2 weeks – you are unsung heroes and many will never know the effort that happens behind the scenes.
